Full-Stack Web Developer

In this role, you’ll be involved in both product development and company strategy and execution—you’ll own the research, design and development of new features and you’ll enhance the product’s roadmap with us. Our codebase is built with best practices in mind, and our product is designed with proper UI/UX at the forefront of development. Some of our technology comes from the open-source community, so be prepared to contribute back!

What we’re looking for

  • Three or more years of Ruby (we use 2.0.0) and Rails (we use 4.0) experience.
  • A solid grasp on front-end technologies (we use CoffeeScript and Sass, for example). Experience with front-end frameworks like Angular and Ember is a plus, as is knowledge of responsive development (we’re very mobile-friendly).
  • An equally solid grasp on database technologies. Right now, we’re primarily relational (PostgreSQL).
  • An eye for design. We’re big on UI/UX here, so a good aesthetic sense would be great!
  • A Bachelor’s or higher in, e.g., Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
  • Great communication skills and the ability to work with a team are both important to us!
  • A plus: An almost-unhealthy obsession with testing and behavior-driven development.
  • A plus: Experience in the education/learning industry.
  • A plus: Interest or experience with computational linguistics, natural language processing (NLP), speech recognition or machine learning.
  • A plus: Knowledge of system administration (we’ve got a nice setup on AWS—EC2, RDS, S3, etc.).

What you’re looking for

Our compensation package includes competitive salary and a significant amount of stock options as an early member. We’ve got a dedicated office at the Cambridge Innovation Center which provides well-stocked kitchens and unlimited self-serve espresso and teas, snacks, etc.—including beer and wine on Thursdays—along with awesome group activities, health perks (a running club, discounts for a nearby climbing gym, etc.), private showers, and more!

You’ll get a technology allowance to build your ideal setup (we like Apple products, but you don’t have to) and a full slate of benefits, including comprehensive health coverage, specialized training budget, and four weeks of paid time off on top of company paid holidays. We help with relocation in case you need it, too!

UI/UX Designer

In this role, you’ll be in charge of the look and feel of Lengio’s product. We strongly believe that a good user experience is one of the best things that we can deliver, and so we recognize the importance of good and effective UI/UX design. You’ll work directly with front-end developers to build out web-based interfaces.

What we’re looking for

  • Three or more years of UI/UX design experience.
  • A solid portfolio that demonstrates interface design skills.
  • Experience and interest in creating wireframes, storyboards, and user flows.
  • Up-to-date knowledge in the latest UI trends, techniques, and technologies—sick of hearing “flat design” or “long shadow” yet?
  • A plus: Experience or interest in data-driven decision making—A/B testing, interface optimization, analytics, etc.
  • A plus: Experience designing for mobile—tablet or phone—environments.
  • A plus: Illustration, print design, and other graphic design skills.

Front-End Developer

In this role, you’ll be in charge of implementing the front-end of Lengio’s product. You’ll work directly with UI/UX designers—or, if you’re comfortable with your own design chops, more independently—to build the user-facing side of the Lengio application. You’ll drive the development of the web-based front-end.

What we’re looking for

  • Three or more years experience in developing front ends for web applications.
  • Intimate knowledge of CSS and browser behavior—you know which CSS3 features are usable right now and you probably hate IE6.
  • A solid grasp on front-end technologies (we use CoffeeScript, Haml, and Sass, among others) and frameworks (like Angular or Ember).
  • The ability to work with back-end developers to design protocols for a full-stack application.
  • Experience with responsive design—our web-based interface is accessed on tablets and phones, too!
  • A plus: Good design chops—it's a big plus if you’ve got an impressive portfolio and can handle the design as well as the implementation of the front-end.

  • A Bachelor’s or higher in, e.g., Computer Science or Linguistics.
